Your messages, handled with care.
The short version: I only collect what you choose to send me, I never sell or share it, and you can ask me to delete it at any time.
Who I am
This is the personal website of Gavin Oakes, based in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. I'm responsible for any information you send through it. You can contact me at [email protected].
What I collect
Only what you type into the contact form:
- your message
- your name, if you choose to give it
- your email address, if you choose to give it so I can reply
Name and email are optional. If you leave them blank, I won't know who you are. Please don't include anything in a message that you wouldn't want me to read.
How messages reach me
The form uses a service called Web3Forms to pass your message to my email inbox. Like any web service, it may log basic technical details such as your IP address to stop spam. It doesn't use your message for anything else.
Why I use it, and how long I keep it
I use your message only to read it and, if you've asked, to reply. My lawful basis is your consent in sending it, and my legitimate interest in answering messages sent to me. I delete messages within 12 months, unless we're still in touch about them. I never sell, share or publish them.
What I can and can't offer
I read every message, but I'm not a crisis or medical service and can't always reply quickly. If you're in crisis, please contact your GP, call Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time, or call 999 in an emergency. For eating disorders, Beat can help.
The rest of the site
The site doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The interactive pieces, such as the Quiet and the "Try it" moments, run in your browser and don't save or send anything you tap. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic connection data to keep it secure, and its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may see your IP address.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see what I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to how it's used. Just email me. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
